More from 2017 Rooms with a View
For the 2017 Rooms with a View, designer Robert Passal assembled a vignette entitled The Joy of Eating, celebrating the memories established from sharing meals with friends and family.
A backdrop of Blossom, from the Michael Berman for Fromental wallcovering collection, serves as a rich counterpoint for color, pattern and accessories from Passal’s Greenwich shop Putnam and Mason.…

Rooms with a View 2016
This weekend marked the 22nd edition of one of Connecticut’s favorite design events with Rooms with a View 2016. Originally conceived by Albert Hadley, this destination designer showhouse transformed the Southport Congregational Church into twelve mini rooms created by select local and national designers.…

What a Week!
No one needs to be reminded of what a week this was. But besides the election, there were many opportunities to experience the restorative power of beauty at events in New York and Connecticut, many of which I will circle back to revisit.…

Rooms with a View 2014 Continued
Today we continue our look at this year’s fabulous Rooms with a View 20th anniversary showhouse, celebrating the legacy of Albert Hadley’s original vision. Jenny Wolf‘s “Le Jardin Vert” was a cozy yet sophisticated ladies’ study/lounge executed with a sophisticated “mix of traditional elements updated with a modern twist.” Bold doses of black tempered with pastel hues and luxurious fabrics resulted in “a dramatic space that still felt calm and feminine.”
You can see on Jenny’s original mood board how her inspiration evolved into her fully conceived vignette.…

Southport, Connecticut was hopping this weekend with this year’s version of one of my favorite local design events, Rooms with a View 2014. Rooms with a View Finale
Today we travel back to Connecticut for a Rooms with a View finale. One of the most glamorous vignettes was a gentleman’s lounge designed by Tiffany Eastman. Walls of Farrow and Ball’s Mole’s Breath, a less than enticing name for a sophisticated deep taupe, featured a subtle chevron pattern executed by Topher Carnes of Finishing Impressions.…

Rooms with a View 2012 Continued
It’s a good thing designer and blogging friend Lisa Ehrlich is so organized. Due to a family emergency she couldn’t attend the showhouse on Friday, but her lovely space was in perfect order ahead of schedule. Depicting “A Young Lady Starting Out,” the 5’6″ x 8′ vignette “showcases a cultured young lady’s first NYC studio apartment.” I remember my first studio and I only wish it had been this pretty and polished!…

Rooms with a View 2012 Part 2
Part of the fun of Rooms with a View is discovering the story behind the spaces, especially when they have personal resonance. As Helen Koch said of business partner John Murphy, both below, “John was thrilled to learn he had been chosen for Rooms with a View but even more so when he heard the theme was ‘Design on a Shoestring.’
John is a hunter gatherer at heart and has trouble passing up a yard sale, fleamarket or antique mart, so he was excited to recently acquire a barrel game table set from a childhood friend in Barrington, RI whose parents had sold their house and were downsizing.…
