At Home and at RW Guild with Roman and Williams
It’s challenging to describe the style of Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch – the celebrated design duo behind Roman and Williams. Their work encompasses everything from set design (where they met, on the production team for Michael Tolkin’s “The New Age” in 1992) to high end residential interiors for such notable clients as Ben Stiller and Gwyneth Paltrow to a myriad of stylish hotels and restaurants as well as the new British Galleries at the Metropolitan Museum opening next year.…
Bow Wow Blitz
For all of you in the Boston area, Susanna and I will be participating in a fun event at the Boston Design Center this Wednesday, May 9th. As part of the design center’s Spring Showcase, the Bow Wow Blitz is a dog extravaganza benefitting Second Chance, a local no-kill animal shelter.…

Final Look – 2018 Kips Bay Show House
Today we start our final look at the 2018 Kips Bay Show House on the fourth floor with Alexa Hampton‘s living room, aptly titled Olympia’s Folly. It’s no secret that Alexa has a long standing love for the classics from Greco Roman antiquities to neoclassic art and architecture (watch At Home with Alexa Hampton for more evidence).…

Kips Bay Decorator Show House 2018 – Part II
Walk up to the second floor of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House 2018 edition and you are met with designer Sasha Bikoff‘s smashingly ebullient staircase. With a color and pattern fantasy inspired by Ettore Sottsass’ Memphis movement, the combination of custom Rug Company carpets with friend George Venson’s Voutsa wallpapers is a mind boggling act of masterful coordination.…

DIFFA Dining by Design 2018
Continuing our look at DIFFA’s Dining by Design 2018, we start with the beautiful Ralph Lauren Home table. Inspired by the courtyard of Ralph’s restaurant in Paris, the romantic setting under their Evalina chandelier included chairs brought in for the occasion from Ralph Lauren’s Bedford estate.…

Peter Pennoyer at DIFFA Dining by Design
DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) is a cause close to the design community’s heart and their annual Dining by Design gala is always an inspiring event, where brands and designers come together with creative installations. I was delighted this year to be sitting at architect Peter Pennoyer’s table, where he and his interiors team, led by Alice Engel, partnered with Sunbrella.…

Frank de Biasi x Christie’s Rockefeller Collection Auction
The next Christie’s collaboration celebrating the upcoming Peggy and David Rockefeller Collection auction is with designer Frank de Biasi. The Christie’s alumnus creatively reimagined the Lobby Gallery at the auction house incorporating items from the sale. A brilliant Mongiardino-like solution for the walls of the blank-box-of-a-space, using a cut and paste collage of Doug and Gene Meyer (Gene is Frank’s partner) wallpapers for Holland and Sherry, set the stage for a stylish interpretation of the collection.…

The Return of Poiret
While today we are accustomed to the close connection between fashion and decor, with designers often crossing the divide, a century ago, these relationships were not so intertwined. But there was one creative couturier who embodied the modern concept of lifestyle, encompassing clothing, interiors and even beauty.…

Pomellato: Since 1967
The 60’s ushered in an era that would change forever the cultural and social landscape, particularly for women who discovered a new independence and liberation. And 1967 seemed to be the year that tipped the scales, from the Monterey Pop Festival to Twiggy to the summer of love.…
The Art, Science and Beauty of Time
While seemingly at odds, art and science are often inextricably intertwined. And perhaps no place is this more evident than in the instruments that capture the beauty of time. I am hardly alone in my fascination with timepieces, those form meet function wonders that combine artistic expertise, engineering and amazing craftsmanship. …
