A look at design and styles of architecture throughout the years

At Home with Susanna Salk and Sara Ruffin Costello

As the founding Creative Director of the original beloved Domino magazine, Sara Ruffin Costello proved she knew a thing or two about style. Since then her talents have been well served writing for everyone from T Magazine and the Wall Street Journal to Vogue and Architectural Digest, authoring design books, such as The Domino Book of Decorating and Jeffrey Bilhuber American Master, consulting, decorating and recently designing a capsule collection of dresses, jewelry and homewares.…

Renovation Inspiration

While we all juggle our lives with multiple projects and activities in the works, this was a week particularly full of multitasking so while I don’t have a proper post, I leave you with a few inspirational photos from a now out of print book I had meant to write about several years ago when it was still available.…

At Home with Susanna Salk and Nathan Turner & Eric Hughes

While both California natives, it took designers Nathan Turner and Eric Hughes years before they would have a Malibu beach home together. Always a west coast boy at heart, Nathan built a successful career in southern California as a designer, shop owner and entertaining expert.…

Puntacana Resort & Club

As we endure these tundra-like temperatures here in the northeast, it’s the perfect time to dream about a tropical destination. High on my list is the Puntacana Resort & Club in the Dominican Republic. Last March was my first visit to the DR and while I didn’t have the pleasure of staying at Puntacana, I was lucky enough to be escorted there for a day of lunch and learning more about the resort.…

Tradition Meets Technology

As we ease into a new year, it is about both looking back and moving forward. And these days, in our attempts to meld past and future, we often come to the intersection where tradition meets technology. In thinking of how this translates into design, I was reminded of a segment in a recent video that was not included in the final cut (the challenge of editing).…

Each year, ELLE DECOR assembles stories from the best of their international editions for their Global Style issue. A perennial favorite, it includes designers and projects around the world, introducing us to new faces and locales. The cover of this special issue, which will hit newsstands next week, features a project by the talented Monaco-based design firm Humbert & Poyet, which originally appeared in ELLE DECORATION Netherlands. …

Amelia Handegan Rooms

I have met Amelia Handegan on several occasions and like her work, she is understated, accomplished and full of surprises. She is probably best known for her sensitive work on historic properties, where, with “one foot in the past and one foot in the future,” she intuitively melds old and new.…

Interior Design Master Class

While there are many beautiful design books on the market that are inspirational, some with tips and hints, none has approached the topic with the rigor and intellect of Interior Design Master Class. Creating a library-worthy resource on design, the volume’s editor, Carl Dellatore, recruited one hundred top American interior designers to contribute essays on a particular aspect of design, interspersed with examples of their work.…

Back on Track

Immediately after the whirlwind of Thanksgiving, I left first thing on Monday to attend the Design Leadership Summit in Miami. Now that I’m back on track in the office, I’ll have some thoughts on this year’s conference to share soon. In the meantime, a little peek at a bit of the inspiration from a great group of speakers at the Nobu Eden Roc, an update of Miami architect Morris Lapidus’ iconic hotel.…

What a Week!

No one needs to be reminded of what a week this was. But besides the election, there were many opportunities to experience the restorative power of beauty at events in New York and Connecticut, many of which I will circle back to revisit.…
