Los Angeles seemed such a long way to go for just the two days of the Design Bloggers Conference, so I was thrilled to go a couple days early and tag along with designing friends Suysel and Anne of Tilton Fenwick while they did a bit of client shopping. While it was a tad disappointing to discover that many of the charming West Hollywood shops are closed on the weekend, we still managed to visit several chic outposts of L.A. style.
Cain Modern is a well respected source of mid century and modern classics. Open to the public as well as the trade, they offer full design services as well as their curated collection of investment grade furnishings. I loved this custom designed side board with Greek key detailing. Hand painted in brushed silver and applied gold, it would be a fabulous statement piece in any room. The gorgeous Karl Springer brass pedestals are intended to be used for a dining table but I think their anthropomorphic shape would be stunning as occasional tables as well.
Lawson Fenning is all about distinctive design combining a love of vintage with a respect for craft. Merging mid-century and Scandinavian inspiration with contemporary styling, their capsule collection, all made locally in Southern California, includes versatile pieces that have a chameleon like quality. Their chic Madison Desk for example could function fashionably in a bedroom or library, adapting to traditional or modern decor. Available to match a wide variety of standard paint colors, the chic lacquer finish is a designer’s dream.
Dragonette is an eclectic emporium of design finds occupying a coveted spot on the desirable La Cienega strip in West Hollywood. From art and collectibles to seating and lighting to vintage and runway jewelry, this airy establishment has it all. Spanning decades and disciplines, this shop is feast of eye candy.
1) A large folk art piece anchors a wall display 2) A fabulous collection of jewelry kept me occupied for a large portion of my visit 3) The elegant Lauren chair is designed in house and is a custom order requiring 3 yards of COM fabric 4) A beautiful vintage Dorothy Draper chest is a change from the ubiquitous gold trimmed design 5) Who knew that the handsome actor Alain Delon designed furniture? He created this incredibly chic chrome, brass and copper backgammon table for Maison Jansen c. 1972.
Merely the tip of the iceberg, I wish I had had more time to explore the many inspired design offerings on La Cienega and West Hollywood! But do stop back for more from my L.A. style file!
I would have thought everything in LA would be open on the weekends…odd. Love that quilted griffen chair above looks like you had some fun.
