Renowned for his layered and opulent interiors, celebrated designer Alidad relies on his love of pattern, color and deep knowledge of history and art to create spaces with intricate bespoke detail and timeless appeal. And yet this was not always his career path. After a halcyon childhood in Iran, his family relocated to London where he first studied statistics and computer science. He then followed his passion and enrolled in a course at Sotheby’s, staying on to become the youngest ever director of the auction house’s Islamic Art department. After eight years he realized his talents and interest lay more in the realm of interior design and in 1985 founded his eponymous firm with his own apartment as his first project. Please join Susanna and me in London for a visit with Alidad in his sumptuous Mayfair flat!
While Alidad has designed countless interiors around the world, nowhere is his approach to design more apparent than in his own London home. Here his love of fine craftsmanship, tactile surfaces layered with art and texture and intricate details have all been carefully considered and effortlessly incorporated.
While each room has its own distinct sensibility, each also represents a masterful melding of worldly elements from ancient to contemporary,
And while Alidad’s home is a personal testament to his own heritage and proclivities, it also serves as an example to many aspects of design that he is so generous to share.
And that is why he began his Alidad At Home series where each month the designer opens his home to a small group of guests. During this intimate gathering, visitors will learn his tips and insights to great design and gracious living.
So thank you Alidad. It is such a pleasure to share your sumptuous home!!
I’m still catching my breath. Thank you. Mary

Thanks for the Alidad interview. I am glad I watched it because Alidad emphasized the importance of staying true to ourselves as opposed to being timid when designing our interiors. I have always guilty of being to conventional in my approach because I have always believed that there is an objective way of designing. Now I must confess, that if truly I am to be innovative, I must be true to myself. It was really a great interview. Thanks.
Take courage, follow the female line, be yourself, do 3/4 before you give up. Thank you for such a simple conversation with so much wisdom to glean. And of course the visuals! A new addition to my ‘when I can get back to London’ list.
Alidad is fantastic. SO much fun. Thanks for a great interview and tour.
Yes he is and my pleasure!!
