While the sumptuous Mayflower Inn is, in and of itself, enticing, it is the Spa that seals the deal. There is a very good reason it was named the #1 Spa in the country by Good Morning America with Travel + Leisure – it is simply amazing!
Commissioned to design the spa after the owners purchased the additional property, architect Reese Owens of Halper Owens, created a carefully sited structure essentially residential in character, belying the 20,000 square feet hidden behind the charming exterior.
By dividing the building into “a series of distinct parts,” Owens maintained the feeling of a country house property, emphasizing the sense of privacy, luxury and comfort for guests. As the firm has done in so many of their other projects, the melding of old and new is seamless, achieving a serene state-of-the-art spa within a shell of appropriate external vernacular.
But let’s take a moment to experience the discovery. As you exit the Inn, you face an exquisitely landscaped slope, facing the American Poets’ Maze.
Continuing up the hill, you pass through a gated arbor, with tiny embedded lights that must be enchanting at the holidays.
Nestled on the following plateau is the outdoor pool, with a timeless Slim Aarons appeal
And for those who can’t ignore their game, a putting green awaits just before the spa.
Once inside the spa, it is a heavenly hushed ambiance.
Changing areas are gracious and tasteful with soothing tones and every accoutrement you could possibly need or want
The gorgeous Garden Room, overlooking Blue Heron Pond is a little slice of heaven. Where one awaits his/her treatment, or lounges after, the space is almost a relaxation treatment itself.
Designed by the late Randy Ridless, the decor of the spa is elegant, understated and ethereal. You can feel your stress level plummet as you melt into the depths of the cushioned chaises within the serenity of the quietly luxurious space.
Throughout the building hospitality stations offer perfectly appointed vignettes of healthy food and drink.
The indoor pool is an oasis of glimmering tranquility
with more places to relax and rejuvenate
The mosaic domed whirpool is a more intimate experience yet equally luxurious.
The Spa offers a wide variety of classes in its four studios including bar, pilates, yoga and strength training on its sleek modern Italian Technogym equipment.
The star of the spa, however, is their list of extensive treatments. All services are customized and performed in spacious soundproof treatment rooms. The level of cleanliness and attention to detail is impeccable and the warm and welcoming spa advisors are knowledgeable, patient and professional.
I have been to many spas but the level of service and skill of the practitioners at the Mayflower was extraordinary. My Hammam treatment was an exceptional experience I didn’t want to end. Director Helen Brown explains, “Our guests tell us that the Mayflower spa is like no other that they have ever experienced … many guests also assure us that as beautiful as the spa is, it is the staff who truly make their experience so uniquely special.”
And if you are enthralled with the products used, there is a full spa shop, where you can purchase them and/or a well edited collection of spa and exercise related items.
Stop back next time when we take a final look at a very special spot at The Mayflower Inn.
Yes…a little slice of heaven. I could use a week or even an hour there!
This just gets better and better….if that’s possible…. franki
That place looks gorgeous and I would be hugely jealous if I wasn’t off for a massage this morning.

I have never seen such immaculate logs for the fireplace! And I can see the ghost of C.Z. Guest on the lounge chairs by the pool. Lucky you to have gone. I am well over due. Wi?ll I see you at market?
Best,

Well, the spa certainly has had a face lift since the last time we were there B.C. (before children!) What a beautiful, restful space – so jealous you go to enjoy some of the treatments (but then again, you so deserve them!)

What a lovely, serene spot! For some reason (and I know this is such a little detail) I always love the flavored waters at a spa – it puts me in that healthy, relaxed mood that a spa is all about!
When can we go? I just want to step right into your pictures.. Ahhhhhhh..
Stacey-
Hope that you are feeling better.
This spa is unbelievable! I love everything about it, and the shop would be a danger for me.
Thank you for sharing.
Happy Wednesday.
