Made in the U.S.A. Cachet

For those of you who are as enamored of the Wall Street Journal’s Off Duty Saturday section as I, you will no doubt be reading this morning’s piece This Outfit was Made in the U.S.A. by Martin Marks. While there is a global design viewpoint that I certainly embrace, I am always proud to write about those companies who are producing their products at home, below a sampling including, clockwise from top, Wesley Hall, Merida, Annie Selke, Diane James, Dunes and Duchess and Oomph.…

Cheers to the Red, White & Blue – Happy 4th of July!

Whether you’re staying home or going out, dressing up or keeping it casual, there’s a little something here for everyone! Starting with a little RED!! Happy 4th of July 1) Charlotte Olympia London 2012 Pandora Perspex clutch (I know July 4th is all about independence from those Brits, but think Olympics) 2) Kim Seybert Seersucker Napkins (I own & love these) 3) Oscar de la Renta Crystal Teardrop Earrings 4) Campari – with soda on the rocks, with a splash of orange juice or in a Negroni, it’s my favorite red summer cocktail!…

New York Gift Fair Finds Part 1

This is going to be a year of many firsts for me – and one was my visit to the New York International Gift Fair on Monday. Not wanting to be overwhelmed, I only included the Piers this time – and even that was a whirlwind of eye candy!!…

Cottages & Garden’s Innovation in Design Awards

Connecticut Cottages & Gardens is one of my favorite magazines. It isn’t often that a local publication is as stylish and beautifully produced as many of the national ones, but Cottages & Gardens (there are 3 regional issues – Connecticut, Westchester and Hamptons) is most decidedly an exception.…

Nirvana in Westchester

This spring is hopping with design activities, from benefits and showhouses to Brimfield and Blogfest. Last week I had the opportunity to visit the Designer Showhouse of Westchester. Located in Bedford Corners, NY, the event is at Nirvana, an $11,000,000 17 acre estate, transformed by 25 interior designers and decorative artists to benefit Cerebral Palsy of Westchester.…

Help is Here

Saturday night I was invited to the press preview of the Greenwich Chapter of the American Red Cross‘s annual Red & White Ball. What a fabulous venue it was. In the Net Jets Hangar at the Westchester Airport, thirty six tablescapes were designed by the area’s top designers and florists.…

Tabletop Royalty

For those wondering what to get the royal couple, Kate and William have asked guests to make donations to selected charities rather than buying them lavish presents. While I applaud that noble gesture, I couldn’t resist making some registry-like tabletop selections for their new home in conjunction with the furniture that is being chosen for our Royal Wedding contest.…

Holiday Preview

Last night I attended my first holiday event of the season and what a lovely introduction it was! Held at Nielsen’s Florist in Darien, CT, the event was co-hosted by the luxury publication Connecticut Cottages & Gardens. Nielsen’s, a third generation family-run business since 1944 is still in its original location and offers many services from traditional floral offerings to special events in its fabulous conservatory.…
