Yesterday Elle Decor featured 30 design insiders’ picks for their favorite ELLE Decor Rooms of 2011. I was thrilled to be included. It was almost impossible to pick just one room from the many fabulous features throughout the year but I finally decided on the living room of this beautiful Paris pied- à-terre designed by Jean-Louis Deniot
I love how the thoughtful renovation of this modern loft-like space retains the beautiful 18th century grandeur of the original building. Don’t these sensuous Ochre sofas look fabulous against the geometric lines of the wall detailing? The gorgeous 18th century fireplace was a Deniot addition to “give the impression that everything has always been there.”

The stylish pairing of the elegant Gilbert Poillerat cabinet with the André Arbus lamps and Yehudit Sasportas drawing is fresh yet exudes a timeless sophistication. And it is this informed mix of old and new, of unforced elegance and laid back chic that drew me to this room. It is as ELLE Decor described it “soigné yet utterly livable.”
Do stop by and see what rooms all the others picked – there are some beauties!!
Oh, so glad you picked this one! I too love that seating at the fireplace, such perfectly tailored sofas. It’s just sooo sophisticated and stylish.
Congratulations Stacey! How lovely to have been asked. And your choice is just gorgeous and yet very, very livable. Am off to see the other rooms…
Congrats. Your choice is a beautiful one, so elegant and refined, the best of old and new. Merry Christmas.
But of course that room has a fabulous air of educated restraint. From the dual seating arrangements, the subdued tones, the lighting and the elegant yet not stuffy atmosphere it all creates a gorgeous ambiance.
I just want to curl up by that fire with my family and friends. Back to study the lighting and the artwork.
