The Mayflower Inn Spa

While the sumptuous Mayflower Inn is, in and of itself, enticing, it is the Spa that seals the deal. There is a very good reason it was named the #1 Spa in the country by Good Morning America with Travel + Leisure – it is simply amazing!

Mayflower Inn

Commissioned to design the spa after the owners purchased the additional property, architect Reese Owens of Halper Owens, created a carefully sited structure essentially residential in character, belying the 20,000 square feet hidden behind the charming exterior.

By dividing the building into “a series of distinct parts,” Owens maintained the feeling of a country house property, emphasizing the sense of privacy, luxury and comfort for guests. As the firm has done in so many of their other projects, the melding of old and new is seamless, achieving a serene state-of-the-art spa within a shell of appropriate external vernacular.

But let’s take a moment to experience the discovery. As you exit the Inn, you face an exquisitely landscaped slope, facing the American Poets’ Maze.

Continuing up the hill, you pass through a gated arbor, with tiny embedded lights that must be enchanting at the holidays.

Designed by the late Randy Ridless, the decor of the spa is elegant, understated and ethereal. You can feel your stress level plummet as you melt into the depths of the cushioned chaises within the serenity of the quietly luxurious space.

I have been to many spas but the level of service and skill of the practitioners at the Mayflower was extraordinary. My Hammam treatment was an exceptional experience I didn’t want to end. Director Helen Brown explains, “Our guests tell us that the Mayflower spa is like no other that they have ever experienced … many guests also assure us that as beautiful as the spa is, it is the staff who truly make their experience so uniquely special.”

Mayflower InnAnd if you are enthralled with the products used, there is a full spa shop, where you can purchase them and/or a well edited collection of spa and exercise related items.

  3. What a lovely, serene spot! For some reason (and I know this is such a little detail) I always love the flavored waters at a spa – it puts me in that healthy, relaxed mood that a spa is all about!

  4. Love the Mayflower!! We celebrated an anniversary there…in the fall. Would love to enjoy it during another season. And that spa…..it’s simply the best!
