At Home with Dee Salomon in her artful Connecticut country haven

Join us at the bucolic Connecticut country home of Dee Salomon. Designed in collaboration with architect Bastien Halard, this riverside house blends traditional New England forms with a restrained, contemporary sensibility—created to feel both timeless and deeply connected to its natural surroundings.

From the outside, limewashed brick and black-stained wood give the structure a barnlike simplicity, while the back of the house opens unexpectedly into a light-filled, tree-house-like form overlooking the surrounding woodland. Inside, tall mullioned windows flood the rooms with soft daylight, connecting each space seamlessly to the landscape beyond.

Natural materials, appropriate proportions and quiet details grace the interiors with a calm, lived-in elegance. Thoughtful choices throughout, from collected antiques and favorite textiles to subtle plain Delft tiles, lend a quiet beauty to the rooms that create a layered, deeply personal conversation.

A former publishing and fashion executive, now a passionate steward of native habitat restoration, Dee worked with Halard’s wife, celebrated landscape architect Miranda Brooks, to pair the house with plantings and terraces that feel they have matured together on the site over decades not merely years.

Whether inside or out, nothing feels overly styled – rather a house that is quietly expressive, unfolding with ease and intention, a sensitivity to place and a deep respect for nature.

You’ll be inspired, informed and entertained!
