Givenchy at Christie’s
What is sure to be one of the blockbuster auctions in recent years is coming this summer. This June, in Paris, Christie’s will feature the collection of Hubert de Givenchy, including more than 1,200 lots of fine and decorative arts from two of his legendary homes. French and European furniture and art, from Old Masters to contemporary, will be offered from the Hôtel d’Orrouer in Paris, below,
and the Château du Jonchet in the Loire Valley.
As Christie’s explained, “The timing of the announcement of the sale coincides with the 70th anniversary of the first haute couture collection Hubert de Givenchy presented in Paris on 2nd of February 1952, which was a resounding international success.” Below a preview of the offerings from the Chateau du Jonchet.
Highlights from the collection will be traveling around to key Christie’s locations including Palm Beach, New York and Hong Kong before returning to Paris for the preview beginning on June 8. I will have much more to share as the sale approaches.
I watched this video yesterday several times, thank you for sharing it again! I cannot wait to see more for the collections.
My pleasure – more to come as we get closer!!
The thing that moved me the most about the property and its contents was the love he had for his dogs and that his buried them and memorialized them in a way that raised his relationship with them to pure art…. He had Mon. Giacometti make tiny lab sculptures for each grave. I hope no one ever tampers with his beautiful and poignant memorial to them.
Yes he was devoted to them (all labs I believe) and I agree – hope they remain.
Alas, all these small bronze dog statues were sold with most of his things (all of them, maybe) by Christie’s Paris in June 2022. As well as the door knocker made by one of the Giacometti brothers for the castle… I was surprised that no one considered these should stay there forever, along with the garden classical stone statues, as part of the place’s history, not to mention the sacred dimension of the dog statues, . Maybe it was estimated that these items would be likely to be stolen down the road, being so valuable…?
I have been honored to have Hubert as a close friend.
I was absolutely a perfect gentleman
Spending hours with him and Philippe in the rue de Grenelle was like a journey in elegance and kindness
How lucky you were! Lovely memories I’m sure!
