The striking hexagonal form of this entirely handmade and hand-painted plate brings a fresh architectural dimension to the classic Garofano (carnation) pattern, balancing timeless Italian artistry with bold sculptural elegance.
This elegant design originated with Italian Count Annibale II Ferniani in the late 18th century. Fascinated by porcelain from the Far East and determined to remain at the forefront of fashion, Ferniani commissioned the original multicolored Imari-inspired majolica pattern known as Garofano. After WWII, Gio Ponti, then art director at Ginori, proposed reinterpreting the design in shades of blue alone, leading decades later to Ginori’s printed Oriente Italiano collection.
This plate, however, remains true to the original tradition. Produced by the historic Italian manufacturer that has crafted these ceramics since 1874, each piece is individually hand painted by skilled artisans.
