The carnation, or garofano, motif traces to Count Annibale II Ferniani’s late 18th-century Faenza workshop, where he produced an Imari-inspired majolica design in a multicolored palette. In the 1950s, Gio Ponti reworked the pattern in shades of blue together with the same manufacturer behind our Blue Carnation plates who have been producing since 1874. In 2000, Ginori then adapted a printed version of the design for its Oriente Italiano collection. The Carnation Placemat carries the same motif in hand-embroidered linen, here in green with navy, made in Spain — a natural pairing with our Carnation napkins, handmade Carnation plates, or with an Oriente Italiano pattern already in your collection.
