Shop Small Saturday Surprise

I try to support small local businesses whenever I can. Not only do these establishments play a vital role in creating jobs and economic opportunities in our communities but it’s nice to see merchandise in person and actually know the people behind the brick and mortar. As Karen G. Mills, administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, said in a recent statement, “Over the last two decades, small and new businesses have been responsible for creating two out of every three new jobs in the U.S., and today over half of all working Americans own or work for a small business.”

  1. You’re making it very easy to do Christmas shopping for us, thank you. Love the feather Christmas trees and since I need new placemats the linen shop is perfect. I try to shop locally but we’re limited in our tiny town so might as well help other small businesses.

  2. This post is touching a very soft soft when it comes to supporting small businesses. I always shop individual retail shops and when it comes to Christmas shopping, part of the experience comes from the excitement of finding the perfect gift for the special friend. I cannot stand Gift Certificates and love to see the growing piles of beautifully wrapped boxed under the tree. I am going to see my friend in new canaan to day and will go and visit some of these stores.

  3. It is so important to shop local and I love it that you mention the small business statistic. Great suggestions on the stores and gift ideas. There are so many good ones now in Darien, New Canaan and Rowayton….makes it easy to shop local. Thanks again for a great post!

  4. Thank you so much for the great post and for supporting Pimlico and our neighboring local shops! We’re all geared up for Small Business Saturday, and looking forward to a busy day in town:)

  5. This was a great post and so important. I often think of how many small business have disappeared from my neighborhood in west Los Angeles. It is so sad to me, because not only did they carry excellent products, but there was a true community spirit when you walked in and everyone knew your name. It was that personal touch. I am very happy that our independent book store still exists, but I worry that it may also go the way of the other small local businesses. I hope you had a good Thanksgiving!
    xx Sunday
