New York Botanical Garden Orchid Dinner

One of my favorite events of the season is the New York Botanical Garden Orchid Dinner, held at the Mandarin Oriental in New York. Featuring exceptional orchid centerpieces by leading designers, it was underwritten this year by founding sponsor Tiffany & Co, principal sponsor Karen Katen Foundation and major sponsors Mr. and Mrs. Marvin H. Davidson.  All proceeds go toward the development of the Garden’s orchid research collection, whose work you will be able to see when the annual Orchid Show opens this weekend.

New York Botanical GardenLong time sponsor of the dinner, Veranda Magazine, was again involved, with Editor-in-Chief Dara Caponigro co-chairing the event along with Fernanda M. Kellogg, Chair of the Board of The Tiffany & Co Foundation. Veranda Director of Decoration and Special Projects Carolyn Englefield, above on right with Dara, above, served as Decorations Chair. A fabulous display of unusual orchids was available for sale outside the ballroom – you have to move quickly for these – they’re always quite popular!

Elegant understated place setting! I thought the calligraphy for the place cards was especially lovely this year.

Richard Moore, Vice President Creative Visual Merchandising at Tiffany’s designed a fresh green and white scheme for the company’s table.

It may have been a cold and miserable day but at the Orchid Dinner it already felt like spring.

One of the most vibrant tables was designed by Lee Cavanaugh for Cullman & Kravis. With eye popping colors and imaginative details, visiting the table was like taking a mini vacation!!

Trim from Samuel & Sons and floral accoutrements from Stonekelly lent the table its lush tropical appeal.

This has been a busy week so do come back next time to take a peek at more of the marvelous tables from this wonderful event.

  1. Again, these are my FAVORITE blog reporting!!!! How nice to see that orchids do not have to be formal. :) We keep a variety of orchids in house all the time. franki

  2. What a gorgeous party and such beautiful tables – love the way they tied the orchid stem to the napkin and the calligraphy- so elegant…

  3. Loving all the lovely tablescapes. I’m sure those lovely orchids didn’t last long either! Looks like a fab event and evening.

  4. Stacey,
This is like an indoor preview of Spring! Orchids are something that must be in my home and to have a room full and tablescapes accented with them….pure heaven!
