Milieu Magazine Anniversary Issue Sneak Peek

Three years ago, Texas based interior designer Pamela Pierce was ready for a new challenge. After thirty years of designing interiors, she decided to share her love of great design from another vantage point. Despite the closings of many beloved shelter publications over the years, Pierce still believed in the power of print and so three years ago this September, launched Milieu Magazine.

Milieu Magazine fall 2016 issue coverThe upcoming anniversary issue, available later this week, celebrates the best of homes, style and sources around the globe. Travel with Suzanne Kasler to shop her favorite Atlanta haunts and then to a beautiful project she designed in South Carolina, visit with Pier Luigi Loro Piana at the Piazza di Siena in Rome and their facilities in northern Italy, learn more about the muti-talented Hutton Wilkinson and British designer Mary Fox Linton (her Fox Linton line of luxurious and understated fabrics were one of my Deco Off favorites) and many more behind the scenes treats. A highlight, featured on the both main and interiors covers, above and below, is a visit to Carolina Irving’s sublime Paris apartment.

A collection of Indian miniature bird prints extend from wall to table in a nonchalant assemblage. In fact the entire apartment is nothing if not casually chic. In an apartment of classic Parisian bones, Carolina’s curated collections take you on a personal journal through centuries of design around the world..

It is not just an education in art history and archaeology from the École du Louvre or years as a magazine editor but extensive travels and an insatiable curiosity that give Carolina the ability to so stylishly assemble the things she loves.

Her dining room, above, reveals her vast collection of reference materials, carefully organized for easy inspiration. By day, Carolina employs the space for research and work and in the evening it is home to frequent dinner parties. Jansen oak chairs are upholstered with her own Kandily pattern, a favorite that I recently used at home.

Here, it is all about the story. And like favored author, famous British travel writer Paddy Fermor, she brings the world home with an intrepid spirit and impeccable eye.

  1. I dropped my subscription to Milieu magazine after the first year because it too( like so many other shelter magazines) featured pages and pages every month of ultra sophisticated interiors bereft of most color- but this issue will have me reconsider. I love Carolina’s home- it’s filled with color and personality- it is just beautiful..

    • Dolores, I think we have all been greiged to death for long enough. I dropped all of my subscriptions for the same reason. Boring! But pretty and colourful are making a return, thank goodness.

  2. I love Milieu Magazine! It is such a notch above in presenting homes, interiors, antiques and art. The photography is simply the best. The layout of the magazine presents ads that are cast so well they parallel the articles. Each issue is an addition to my coffee table books, hard to call it just a magazine!

  3. I too dropped subscriptions as so many features are so white, boring and slick…or tiresomely over rusticated.Whatever happened to beautiful patterns, and ornament and curves? Also very tired of Turkish prints as an excuse for pattern!

  4. I too love Milieu but one stylistic conceit that I find frustrating is their use of entire pages for white backgrounds and a quote from the copy. I would much prefer to see more of whatever interior they are featuring and now dedicating a page to copy I have already read, without more illumination of the featured interior or exterior. I actually like the greige interiors because they show me how to establish a good base onto which I can add color to and easily change out as I find new exciting elements.

  5. Thank you Stacey for this including Milieu in your wonderful Sneak Peeks! You do everything so well. Loving your Nantucket pictures on Instagram too! Oxox

  6. What I wanted to add to “Millieu” was “Madame and Monsieur” Giannetti created ..surroundings, especially of a social or cultural nature via that superb barn/home in Maine! fmp

  7. What an indulgent treat for the eye to view the richness and vitiated wild abandon of collection, color and pattern. I look forward to the continued celebration of visionaries and their uniquely personal spaces..

  8. The upcoming issue will be a pleasure to read as it shows homes that have charater and are lived in and surrounded by collections .
Awaiting to get my hands on a copy .
