My How Things Have Changed

I saw an article last week by Kim Friday (senior fashion editor, sportswear, WWD) entitled 9 Right Now: Collegiate Favorites (Campus-worthy classics go luxe). Several things interested me about this piece. Firstly, I would have been thrilled to have any of these items in school – when I first went to college, at least where I was, girls wouldn’t have been caught dead in anything but baggy pants.…

New Talent at Talbots

Talbots is not normally on my radar but I somehow stumbled on their fall catalogue and was surprisingly impressed. They are clearly trying to tone up their image. There are quite a few adorable items with great price points – could be just the thing to fill in some holes in your fall wardrobe without breaking the bank.…

I could do weeks’ worth of posts on Nantucket. There is so much to see and do. Here, however, is an extremely abbreviated list of a few more of my favorite places, divided into three categories for when you are on island.…

Nantucket Top 20 – Shop

Nantucket is a shopper’s heaven. There is more quality shopping here within a small area than most places I can think of. I have focussed on not only personal favorites but traditional Nantucket stores that have strong ties to the island.…

Nantucket Style

I’ve been coming to Nantucket for over 25 years and even though it is more crowded and built up than ever, it is still an island paradise. Thirty miles out to sea, it is a small place, only 3-1/2 miles wide by 14 miles long with over 40% of the land protected by the Land Trust.…

Peter Beaton

Darcy Creech and her store, Peter Beaton, are institutions here on Nantucket. It all started in 1989 when Darcy made herself a chic, flower-adorned panama hat to wear to a party here on island. It was an instant hit and in no time, Darcy built for herself a successful hat company selling to the likes of Henri Bendel, Neiman Marcus, Barney’s, Nordstrom, and two First Ladies.…

Nantucket Looms

Nantucket Looms represents some of the best artisanal industry on Nantucket. Liz Winship, who has been on the board of directors of the Nantucket Atheneum and Small Friends, worked for Nantucket Looms for years before purchasing it in 1993. And this year the store moved to its own building at 31 Main St.…

Here Comes the Sun

As you now know, I go out of my way to avoid getting sun. Despite my good sunscreens, sometimes you just don’t even want the rays. This year, I invested in a beautiful new sun hat. But not just any hat.…

Camel Classics

chloe Of the many post ideas I had lined up, one was identical to Habitually Chic’s Chic in Camel post from last week. Not only was I going to talk about how excited I was that camel is coming back but was also going to reference the beautiful Chloe fall collection, which I’m listing here just in case you missed Heather’s post. …
