Behind the Scenes at Christie’s

This year, Christie’s is celebrating its 250th anniversary. And while there have been many special exhibitions and events this year at their outposts around the world, today I take you on a quick virtual trip online behind the scenes at the auction house where they have posted interviews and special relevant pieces for the occasion.…

Spring Design Auction at Christie’s

The intersection of art and design frequently raises many questions. Is art considered not inherently as important or valuable when it has a function? Or should it perhaps be considered even more important since it enhances the owner’s life on a daily basis on both a physical as well as emotional level. …

Designers’ Picks From the Christie’s 20th Century Decorative Art & Design Auction

Auctions, especially at distinguished houses, can be intimidating. And yet they are some of the best sources for great buys. So in anticipation of the upcoming Christie’s 20th Century Decorative Art & Design Auction next month, the house decided to collaborate with three young design firms to show budding collectors the type of pieces these stylish interior designers might choose for their clients, or themselves. …

Christie’s Interiors

Sometimes you have to go with the flow. I had a different post planned for today but then my very market-savvy sister sent me the latest issue of Christie’s Interiors. Finishing up her thesis for her Decorative Arts Masters, she faithfully follows all the auctions and knew this was one I would love.…

At the Movies + Bonus

To be honest, I was going to write about a different movie today to kick off the Oscar season, but a little discovery caused me to change my mind (more on that in a bit). Today’s film is a classic Hitchcock that I’m sure most readers have seen.…

Auction Update

Last weekend I wrote about the (then) upcoming auction at Doyle that I thought had many appealing and reasonably priced pieces. Well it turns out everyone else thought so as well! “The sale totaled a strong $2,739,469, against a pre-sale estimate of $1,802,700-2,794,700, with an exceptional 84% sold by lot and 94% sold by value.” The featured item from the Joseph Patrick auction, these George II mahogany library chairs, sold to an English bidder for $164,500 (estimate $100,000 – $150,000)!…

Chateau Splendor | le Prince Jardinier

We are taking a break from Wednesday Wine today to take a look at another lovely French location. After Megeve yesterday, we are meandering to the Loire valley, specifically to the Chateau de la Bourdaisiere. After a career in banking, Prince Louis Albert de Broglie, and his brother Prince Maurice, purchased the historic chateau in 1991, thus changing the course of Albert’s career.…
