Catching Up Out and About
The last few weeks have been a whirlwind and while I am just about on my way to Paris (more about that in a minute), I wanted to spend a moment catching up a bit. I’m sure many of you have been watching the record breaking Rockefeller auction at Christie’s.…

Frank de Biasi x Christie’s Rockefeller Collection Auction
The next Christie’s collaboration celebrating the upcoming Peggy and David Rockefeller Collection auction is with designer Frank de Biasi. The Christie’s alumnus creatively reimagined the Lobby Gallery at the auction house incorporating items from the sale. A brilliant Mongiardino-like solution for the walls of the blank-box-of-a-space, using a cut and paste collage of Doug and Gene Meyer (Gene is Frank’s partner) wallpapers for Holland and Sherry, set the stage for a stylish interpretation of the collection.…

Lunch with Martha Stewart & Kevin Sharkey at Christie’s
While the latest nor’easter blew through with a vengeance last week, causing event cancelations and delays, I was delighted to still be able to attend a marvelous luncheon at Christie’s hosted by chairman Marc Porter and Martha Stewart with co-author Kevin Sharkey, celebrating their new book, Martha’s Flowers, and the upcoming Peggy & David Rockefeller Collection auction.…

The Mystique of the Circus in Art
In the days before film, television, technology and other modern day distractions, the circus was a popular and egalitarian form of entertainment, especially in Europe, where it had a centuries long history. Affordable and available to all, people looked forward to these traveling troupes that would perform seasonally.…

Chinese Export at Christies
Not only is Chinese Export porcelain a visual feast but a fascinating lesson in the cross cultural exchange of art, ideas and commerce. Catering to western demand, this “china” (which is of course how the word originated) is an amazing melding of Chinese artisanship with Western themes, forms and decorations.…

Highlights from Christie’s Sale of The Collection of Peggy and David Rockefeller
As you may remember from my post on the Rockefeller Homes and Gardens, next spring Christie’s will offer The Collection of Peggy and David Rockefeller. In the meantime, a global tour begins next week in Hong Kong (marking the family’s longtime commitment to Asia) with highlights from the collection.…

Rockefeller Homes and Gardens
When you grew up, as I did, on the Hudson River, in the vicinity of Pocantico Hills, the Rockefeller name loomed large. In addition to their own stately homes, the family was largely responsible for so many generous gestures in the area, from the charming Union Church with its Matisse and Chagall windows, to the amazing Stone Barns Center to the Rockefeller State Park Preserve. …

Catching Up at Christies
As I was catching up at Christies, I went down the rabbit hole and thought I’d share a few favorites from the many upcoming auctions. The decorative arts covers such an incredibly wide range of objets that reflect the history, tastes and lifestyles of their time.…

Setting a Holiday Table with Christie’s
Designer Alex Papachristidis and I share a love of tabletop so we were delighted when several weeks ago Christie’s asked if we would like to collaborate on setting a holiday table using lots from their upcoming Living with Art sales. Merging a wide range of categories and styles, the sale focuses on how both fine and decorative art live successfully together in our homes. …

Peter Hone Collection at Christie’s Interiors Sale
Of all the auctions this month, none could be more charming than the Christie’s Interiors Sale of the Hone Collection in their South Kensington outpost. Many of you will recognize the interiors of Christian House, Peter Hone’s Soane-like London home, as he and his home have been profiled many times over the years.…
