Getting Your Game On
Well Irene has turned out to be one of the nastiest visitors I’ve had in quite a while. Not only did she flood our town and rip down our trees but she’s left us powerless and in our case without water as well!!…

At the Movies
Instead of focusing on a single film today, I am sharing with you an entertaining auction of a film star’s notable collection. Douglas Fairbanks Jr. was a man of many talents. Although he hadn’t intended to be an actor, considering his heritage and circumstances, it was difficult to avoid.…

London Calling
I have been waiting to tell you a very exciting development and now that all seems to be in place, I am thrilled to announce that I will be participating in BlogTour 2011 in London next month. Modenus, the expansive online design resource and MMPI, the producers of the Architectural Digest Home Design Show and MyDeco.com have collaborated to create this incredible opportunity for a select group of US bloggers, who are being sponsored to attend the London Design Festival.…

Wednesday Wine
Lucky Terry is reporting to us from Saratoga this week where she is checking out the racing scene as well as eating and drinking at some fabulous establishments.
The famous horse family, The Whitneys, had a summer cottage called the Lodge on Nelson Avenue in Saratoga. Across the street was their large compound. The Lodge has now been restored into an exciting restaurant called Siro’s Trattoria.…

Country Charm in the Garden
On our way to visit Dominique Browning for our BEHIND THE Q weekend, Dr. Pat and I first stopped in to visit a longtime friend of hers, Andrew Grossman at his lovely home in Seekonk, MA. Although Pat had sung his praises as a landscape designer extraordinaire, little did I know the treat I was in for.…

At the Movies
Although I don’t officially feel in the back to school mode quite yet, I’m going to have to face the music soon since one of mine has already flown the coop. I know many of the southern schools have already begun, so I’ve chosen a movie this week to gently get us all in the mood.…

Fantastical Friday!
Please stop back tomorrow for At the Movies. We’ve had a lot of comings and goings at the quintessential home this week culminating with one coming home from camp and one leaving for school yesterday. We actually had one night, for the first time in two months, where everyone was home together – quite the occasion!!…

Marcella’s Magic
Last spring I wrote about Camilla Dietz Bergeron, that elegant bastion of antique gems upstairs on Madison Avenue. While they are primarily known for their incredible selection of vintage pieces, they also have a secret weapon within their arsenal.
When I visited the salon, I was immediately taken with a case featuring several fabulously adorned shagreen and wooden cuffs.…

Wednesday Wine
How perfect that we are discussing the winery at Quintessa today. It represents owners Valeria and Augstin Huneeus’ dream of creating the quintessential wine estate – obviously a concept I can embrace. They are old friends of Terry, so I will let her tell you a bit more.…

Behind the Q – Both Sides Now
As many of you now know, after BEHIND THE Q, I run an additional post from my side of our excursion. I could have made many selections right from Dominique’s lovely house, like this classic Alvar Aalto vase above, but I will of course stick to actual possibilities!…
