Bag Bounty
This fall fashion season is a winner in every way. The clothes are classic and beautifully tailored and so are the bags. I love the return to elegance trend evidenced by the lady-like structured forms here. I think Grace or Audrey would have been delighted to carry any of these.…

The Eyes Have It
So after yesterday’s Emmys post, I thought it would be appropriate to discuss a little demaquillage (sounds so much more glamorous, no?).
I have very sensitive eyes, as many people with light colored eyes do. I need sunglasses as soon as there’s even the slightest glare and in the winter I tear as soon as I go out in the cold.…

Excellence at the Emmys
So, I actually watched some of the Emmys last night. I’m not a big awards show person, but I have a soft spot for Jimmy Fallon (shown here with wife, producer Nancy Juvonen), so I tuned in for a bit.
I think he is adorable – cute, funny, can sing and dance – what’s not to like?…

All That and Nice Too?
When I am reading the Sunday NY Times, I invariably pick up the Styles section first – or what my brother-in-law refers to as the girls’ sports pages. And as I am finishing, I always quickly peruse the wedding/celebrations section in the back.…

Wish list
I have decided to start a wish list here. It will be recurring and perhaps at some point I will assign it a particular day of the week. But for now, I will enter randomly. Besides the intangibles that everyone wishes for such as good health and our children’s happiness and success, this list will include wishes ranging from the now obtainable to the someday obtainable and in another life obtainable.…

Enchanted Cottage
I am so excited to tell you that one of my favorite old movies is finally out on DVD. I have been anxiously awaiting its arrival for years. (It was evidently released at the end of last year but I didn’t realize until recently). Enchanted Cottage is a wonderful sentimental classic with Robert Young and Dorothy McGuire.…

J. Crew U.
I was in my local J. Crew in New Canaan over the weekend doing a little back to school shopping with my daughter. The fall collection is just starting to come in and there were so many fabulous things, but what really caught my eye was the new merchandising in the store.…
Tabletop Tips
I’ll admit it – I have a slight obsession with tabletop. I love it all – placemats, napkins, china, flatware, stemware. But with four kids, it didn’t make sense over the years to be using my nice mats every day. Unfortunately even the reasonably sturdy woven Deborah Rhodes mats that I love didn’t stand up to their abuse.…

Vive La France
Today marks the 66th anniversary of the liberation of Paris after WWII. Ralph Morse was a photographer for LIFE for decades. He was in Paris then and took these extraordinary photographs documenting the momentous occasion. Still alive at 93, Morse spoke with LIFE about his time in France in 1944 and 45.…

Loro Piana Lust
I could live in Loro Piana. For any of you not familiar with the name, their line is truly the quintessence of modern Italian sportswear.
The Horsey Jacket above, for example, was created for the 1992 Italian equestrian team. The chic yet effortless styling, unmistakable quality, and distinctive details make their products stand apart from the crowd.…
